Convert your Canada Study Permit to Work Permit in these beneficial ways

Learn and earn while you study: If you are presently enrolled in a full-time study program at a Canadian university or college, you get the opportunities to be entitled to work part-time or full-time. Please note the following data related to this scheme.

  • Study Permit holders who move into Canada have the permission to work up to 20 hours each week or full-time during a break.
  • If you have the Canadian Study Permit in the Canada PR Process, the requirement does not rise to apply for another work permit for working as a part-timer.
  • Suppose you wish to immigrate to Canada by meeting the work eligibility criteria. However, your Study Permit doesn’t mention the probability of working or taking employment in the country. You can apply to have a modification of your study permit.
  • If you fulfill the co-op or intern Work Permit requirements, you are eligible to work full-time.

Switching to a Work Permit after finishing your studies

After completing a degree at a Designated Learning Institution or DLI with a vision to immigrate to Canada, you are qualified to apply for a post-graduate Work Permit, provided to international students upon completing graduation from a DLI issued for a full three years.

The Benefit: The advantage of a post-graduate Work Permit is that it’s not linked to any specific employer, location, or profession, also called open Work Permit, which allows you to work in any designation and anywhere in Canada after applying within 180 days of fulfilling all the criteria.

Obtaining a Work Permit before completing your degree program(s): If you decide on stopping your studies in Canada before finishing your certification, you need to obtain a Work Permit in the Canada PR procedure via LMIA.

What is LMIA?

An LMIA states that Canadian employers couldn’t find a PR to fill the post; unlike an open Work Permit, a closed LMIA Work Permit is limited to a particular employer, designation, and place.
